Weber Thompson documenting Seattle LEED ND project

Aug. 1, 2008 – Weber Thompson has been selected to document the City of Seattle’s LEED for Neighborhood Development application for the South Lake Union neighborhood.

LEED ND integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building into the first national system for neighborhood design. The South Lake Union area is one of 238 communities in the LEED ND pilot program, and is unique in its position of combining both existing and planned developments. The post-pilot program is expected to launch in 2009.

To document its environmental sustainability, Weber Thompson’s Community Design Team will measure the South Lake Union area’s density, public transportation, mix of uses, green buildings and other metrics.

Weber Thompson, a long-time South Lake Union business, is working on two other projects seeking LEED ND certification. They are Sweetwater, a master-planned community in Hailey, Idaho, and Meadow Ridge Park, a 42-acre mixed-use project in Bellingham, Wash.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance, environmentally sustainable projects. LEED ND is a collaboration among the U.S. Green Building Council, the Congress for the New Urbanism and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
