On December 20th, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Patsy Surh Place in Tacoma’s Lincoln District alongside members of the Asian Pacific community, local officials, and project partners. The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) and the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) are co-developing this 6-story building, which will provide 77 affordable units for seniors making 30% and 50% of Area Median Income, complemented by amenities like a community lounge and retail spaces. This development marks APCC’s first housing community, primarily targeting, but not exclusively for, Asian Pacific elders.
The project is named after Patsy Surh O’Connell, a distinguished community leader and advocate, deeply dedicated to promoting Asian and Pacific Islander heritage and arts in Washington State. Renowned for her artistry, advocacy, and heartfelt commitment, Patsy’s influence and dedication shine as a beacon of cultural pride and community development.
In a recent press release, she shared “I am profoundly proud and honored to have senior housing named after me. It is a testament to a shared commitment to the well-being and community support for our elderly. I look forward to the positive impact and sense of belonging that Patsy Surh Place will bring to older individuals in our community!”
We’re proud to once again partner with LIHI to deliver essential affordable housing and community services. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this vital project to life.
