Weber Thompson’s most recently completed commercial office project, DATA 1, received the Office Development of the Year award at the NAIOP Night of the Stars ceremony on Friday, November 3rd 2017. This marks the fourth consecutive year that a Weber Thompson project has received an award at the annual ceremony.
Located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, DATA 1 is a highly sustainable commercial office building built around energy efficiency, sustainability, productivity and community. The Salmon-Safe certified and LEED Core & Shell Gold registered building has 114,000 sq.ft. of commercial office space that promotes a productive and healthy work environment with plenty of fresh air and natural daylighting. A large interior courtyard contributes to balanced daylighting of the office floors while high performance glazing and shade fins on the south elevation control glare and heat gain, resulting in a building projected to use 30% less energy than a typical baseline office building. At its base, 12,000 sq.ft. of retail space supports local businesses and invigorates the pedestrian experience. The building was developed by Troll Ave, LLC and was constructed by Pennon Construction Company.
Cleaning more than 160,000 gallons of the heavily polluted storm water coming from the Aurora Bridge annually through a series of biofiltration retention planters located along Troll Avenue forms the heart of the landscape design by the Weber Thompson integrated Architecture and Landscape Architecture team. These planters are densely planted with vegetation that naturally scrubs polluted runoff before it flows directly into Lake Union. Additional stormwater management features include a green roof, which helps naturally mitigate on-site stormwater and reduce runoff.
Winning Night of the Stars projects were judged by a panel of real estate professionals and were evaluated based on impact on the community, market adaptability, ingenuity and local contributions. NAIOP Washington State is a trade association for developers, owners and investors in the industrial, office and related commercial real estate industries. The chapter, founded in 1976, is the fourth-largest and one of the fastest growing chapters nationally.
